US Open 2010

Watching the US Open and all of the coverage this year has simply confirmed what we already knew: the media (particularly) the sports media is awful.

First, all we hear about is that Nadal and Federer were on a collision course for history... ignoring every other competitor in the field. This of course, was in spite of the fact that, Nadal had never made the finals here.

Fed is an entirely other story. For four years, I've been hearing that his reign is over. That, because he isn't winning EVERYTHING, he's washed up. Forget about his amazing run of Semi-Finals and Finals appearances. Forget that he's in incredible shape at 29. Forget he's arguably (already) the greatest tennis player ever. Oddly (it's odd because everyone says Fed is washed up) they pushed and pushed for a Fed v. Nadal final.

Let me tell you, it would have been glorious. The greatest tennis player of all time against the guy who is (literally) nipping at his and the heels of greatness. Contrasting styles. Nadal, an overpowering, physical specimen versus Fed, the guy who invented smooth. I admit, I was ALL WRONG about Nadal. After his first French Open, I muttered, "let's see this guy do it on all surfaces." In the past 3 years, he's proved me completely wrong. His work-ethic and amazing adaptability has him in place today to complete the career Grand Slam at an astonishing age of 24.

Now, we're going to have an amazing final of Djokovic v. Nadal, but, since the media hyped Fed v. Nadal for 2 weeks, it almost seems like the tennis world is getting screwed. Thanks sports media, way to prematurely disappoint everyone and treat Djokovic like a red-headed stepchild. Jackasses.

Federer is not done. Until he starts losing in the 1st round of Grand Slams, I'm not writing him off. The last thing that Fed wants is to watch Nadal steal all of his mojo now.

Annoyingly, in American culture, we love building people up...... just to tear them down. Like Brett Favre. Several analysts/talking heads/sports jackasses have lamented that Favre is back and that he's a glory hound, a primadonna. But, then, Fox goes and brings us, 'The Favre-cam.' Yeah, remember that? Now, they're sick of him......

Again I ask, where is the quality sports journalism? It sure as hell isn't in the picture below.....(click image to enlarge)
